An auction is a process where the exchange tries to buy the required stock on behalf of a seller who failed to deliver shares after selling them. If you sell shares but cannot deliver them within the stipulated time, the exchange arranges an auction. Your broker will try to purchase the shares from the auction market on T+2 day, and the settlement is completed on T+3 day (excluding holidays).
